A Book That Changed My Creative Life

This time last year I was invited to a book launch workshop for Philippa Stanton’s new book “Conscious Creativity”. The workshop was held in an incredible house in London and it was the most magical, creative and inspiring event.

I knew it was going to be beautiful and I am always inspired when I spend time with Philippa but I wasn’t prepared for the way that the workshop and the book were going to open me up creatively. I felt like something really shifted in me and in my senses that day and for the past year I have felt more connected to the world around me and to my personal creativity than I ever have done before.

During the workshop we used all our senses to explore the spaces and things around us. We used smells to take us back to memories of the past, which I found fascinating. We meditated on opening and eating a satsuma. Outside we listened to the sounds along the river. We looked around a room in silence. We deeply connected to our senses and I have carried the experience with me ever since. I feel like I have experienced the whole of 2019 in a bigger, better, more creative and fulfilling way.

Living in a home full of the creative magic of Autism means that I’m constantly amazed by my children’s incredible connections to the world around them. My daughter has such an incredible sense of smell and really uses it to explore the world. I feel that Philippa’s workshop came at the most perfect time for me because it’s really helped me to tap into my senses at a deeper level, which in turn has enabled me to understand and connect to my children even more.

I have always had a good memory and through years of meditation practise, I am really good at visualisation but I know feel that I have another level of connections to my memories and my visualisations. They involve all my senses in a deeper way.

I have been creative all my life but I had started to feel a little disconnected. I was feeling a need to create a particularly type of content for social media and to share everything, and this was taking up my creative energy and probably stalling it too.

Attending this special workshop and reading the book helped me to unlock it all again. I haven’t created or explored as much as I have wanted to this year but I have been to more exhibitions, felt the world at a deeper level and my creativity is definitely flowing. I am excited and cannot thank Philippa enough!

This beautiful book would make a wonderful gift for a friend or indeed for yourself. And I highly recommend following Philippa on Instagram for endless inspiration, joy, creativity and colour! xo
