Summer Holiday Creativity

The Summer Holidays is a wonderful time for creativity. I love the freedom that a big stretch of time gives us and I know that it really helps us to connect to our creativity as a family.

I love to plan some projects for the holidays and make sure that I have the supplies that we need. This helps me on the days that we are doing the activities and also makes sure that I actually make all the ideas happen rather than just keeping them on a pretty Pinterest board!

This year we have made a family commitment to being as environmentally conscious as possible (I will be sharing the steps we have taken so far), so I am beginning my project planning by seeing what art supplies we already have and planning projects around these things. This is great for keeping to a budget too. Art can get expensive but it doesn’t have to, so I really recommend starting with what you’ve got. It helps with your creativity too!

I am aiming for 12 creative projects with my children, one big one for me and some smaller ones that may or may or not happen. So, that’s 2 a week for the whole six weeks although we are away for a week, so we will do 3 a week some weeks. I recommend setting a creative schedule that you know that you can achieve and then have some spare projects if you all get really into it. This way you feel great and not defeated. I also recommend choosing projects that vary in length. Sometimes you might spend 10 minutes together and other times a whole afternoon. However long the project takes it is still a beautiful thing to do together, so do not get caught up in over complicating things.

As we go through the holidays I will share what we do both here and on Instagram. This will help to keep me going and hopefully encourage you too.

I will be adding to this over the next couple of weeks as I’m a bit behind on my planning and might need to look for some extra ideas. I love to have a board to spark my inspiration. Sometimes we stick to something I’ve found on there or sometimes we use it to bounce our ideas around.
